About Me

Reformer Pilates Aberdeen

I'm a Professional Engineer by background and, having been confined to a desk job for most of my career, I developed a number of postural related weaknesses.

I started Pilates classes four years ago as an experiment.  I was reluctant to drop one of the daily gym sessions but niggles around my body were telling me I something was going to give. Those first few sessions learning about body awareness didn't grab my attention but I'd paid for an 8 week block so wanted to see it through! Once the exercises started to get slightly more challenging, my weaknesses started to show. It's incredible how simple movements can be so difficult if you don't have strength and control in all those little supporting muscles that are there to protect us.  Being more than slightly competitive in nature, it was like a challenge had been thrown down, I had to fix those weaknesses.  Four years later and I'm still working on them but I've come a long way.

I trained for almost two years with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) in London to teach Matwork Pilates and Pilates on the large Equipment. I've also completed a number of specialist Pilates courses for specific populations or to add variety to the standard Pilates repertoire.  You could say I've become a 'Body Engineer' with the necessary tools to improve weak movement patterns and poor posture through Pilates.
